Print Shop 23 is a computer graphics program designed specifically for printing, although it can make graphics for digital use. The program, which is a popular choice for schools and businesses, can be used to create brochures, banners, newsletters, envelopes, calendars and cards. Often, computer graphics work like photo editing involves removing the background so that the primary object in the photo can be pasted elsewhere. Unlike newer graphics programs, however, there is no automatic tool in The Print Shop 23 for creating transparent backgrounds.
Difficulty: Moderately EasyInstructions1Open Print Shop 23 on your computer and choose the "Edit a Photo" option in the QuickStart Layout. Open the "Art Gallery" dialog box.
2Select the tab in the Art Gallery dialog box that is labeled "My Art and Photos." Open the "File" menu, then choose the "Import" option. This opens the Import Pictures dialog box.
3Locate and choose the photo that you want to edit using the drop-down menu in the Import Pictures dialog box.
4Open the "Add to Art Category" drop-down menu and choose a new location for the photo. Find the option labeled "Make Local Copy of File" and make sure that it is checked.
5Click on the "Import" button. This moves a copy of the photo into the program's graphics choices.
6Choose your photo file from its new location in the Art Gallery and click "Select" to add it to your project.
7Click on the photo in your project to select it, then click on the "Photo Tools" menu in the Object toolbar. This opens the Photo Workshop options.
8Choose the Freehand Crop tool. Click on the photo with the tool, then drag the cursor to draw an outline around the part of the photo you want to keep. This crops out the rest of the photo, making it transparent.
