Visual Studio Professional is a software program from Microsoft that is for Web developers. If you are using the 2005 edition of Visual Studio Professional, you can upgrade to either the 2008 edition or the 2010 edition. Regardless of which edition you prefer to upgrade to on your computer, the upgrade installation process is the same. When you are ready, the upgrade installation is something that you can do on your own.
Difficulty: Moderately EasyInstructions1Buy yourself an upgrade copy of Visual Studio Professional 2008 or 2010. As of September 2010, the 2010 edition is the most current and is available on the Microsoft website for $299; it is also available from other retailers. The 2008 edition is no longer offered by Microsoft, but can be purchased from other vendors, such as eValueSoftware.
2Download your installation file, if you bought a digital download, and double-click it. Or insert your installation disk into your computer. This starts the installation wizard.
3Agree to the software terms and click "Next" to continue. If you do not agree to the terms, you cannot install the upgrade.
4Check your download receipt, or look on the installation disk case, to get your product key. Enter it on the screen and click "Next" to continue.
5Choose "Upgrade" as the type of installation that you want to do. This starts the actual upgrade installation.
6Wait while the upgrade installs. You will see a progress bar on your screen that you can follow. Typically the upgrade installation takes between 15 and 45 minutes, depending on your computer.
7Reboot your computer when the upgrade installation has finished and you are prompted to do so.
